Being good friends with Vampa, the Count was able to rescue Albert and Albert declares himself eternally indebted to the Count. Because of this, the Count was able to be introduced into Paris society.

After discovering that the Count was responsible for the denunciation of his father, Albert insults the Count and challenges him to a duel. Before the duel is able to take place, Albert apologizes to the Count, who gratefully forgives him.
