Mercédès

Fiancée of Edmond Dantès. After his imprisonment, she married Fernand Mondego and became Countess de Morcerf. She becam a well-educated, but unhappy woman. She was the only person able to recognize the Count of Monte Cristo's true identity on first sight.

After the Count de Morcerf's (Fernand) treachery is revealed, she and her son Albert abandon him and his wealth to live in Louis Dantès' (Edmond's father's) old house.
