Baron Danglars

Family: Madame Danglars (wife), Eugénie Danglars (son)

Occupation: Banker

In the beginning, he worked as the purser of the Pharaon. His jealousy for Edmond Dantès pushed to collaborate with Fernand Mondego and accuse Edmond of treason. After Edmond's imprisonment, Danglars fled Marseilles and acccumulated his wealth as a banker. He married Madame de Nargonne and settled in Paris.

A stock market crash induced by the Count of Monte Cristo destroyed a large part of Danglar's fortune. Unwilling to repay a deposit he held for the hospitals, Danglars fled to Italy, where he was kidnapped by bandit leader Luigi Vampa. Vampa, friend of the Count, extorted Danglars of all but 50 000 francs. The Count anonymously returned the money to the hospitals and released Danglars.
